Wendy Jeffrey, 51, of Frotway Road, Brinsworth, pleaded guilty to drink driving on the A619 at Darfoulds on 17th January at Worksop Magistrates’ Court.

Defence solicitor David Verity said Jeffrey had a long standing alcohol problem and had been forced her to give up her job in nursing.

Magistrates heard the Jeffrey was the victim a vicious attack several years ago, which had a severe impact on her.

Mr Verity said Jeffrey was driving to visit a friend when she was stopped by police.

He added she has little recollection of the incident, but it has come as a ‘wake-up call’ to her.

Jeffrey was given an eight week sentence suspended for a year, with a six month alcohol treatment programme, £45 costs and £80 victim surcharge. Her ban will be cut by 35 weeks if she completes the drink driving rehabilitation course.
