Dangerous prisoner remains at large

The news that he has still not been recaptured will add to the fears of his victims who will continue to feel uneasy in the knowledge that Overton is still on the loose.

Overton, who is now aged 35, was jailed for 18 years at Sheffield Crown Court in 2006 for 23 robberies carried out across four counties over a two-month period.

Each involved the use of a handgun and one took place in Swallownest.

He was described as a ‘significant risk’ to the public.

Overton, from Sheffield, carried out the raids with accomplice Nigel Beever, who was jailed for 14 years for his part in the crime spree.

One of their targets was the Top Shop off-licence on Aughton Lane in Swallownest,

Overton was being held at a prison in Cheshire, but is understood to have gone missing while on day release.

Despite repeated attempts by the Guardian to establish the latest position, neither the Ministry of Jusitce, nor South Yorkshire Polcie or Cheshire Police have been willing to comment with the Ministry saying it was the police’s responsibility while both police forces say the buck stops with the Ministry.
