Prosecuting, Lynn Bickley said: “It was about 8.30pm in the evening and the victim was standing in the carpark having a cigarette when the defendant drove into him, knocking him over the bonnet.”

Stewart had pleaded guilty to failing to stop at the scene of an accident, dangerous driving and driving without insurance at an earlier hearing on August 24, and the case was adjourned for Probation Service reports.

The court also heard that since the incident, Stewart had been banned from driving after she was caught drunk behind the wheel in March.

Mitigating, Kirsty Sargent said: “The reason she didn’t stop was because of the pint of beer being thrown at her car. She knows the complainant and she feared that if she had stopped he would have been aggressive.”

Sentencing, District Judge Andrew Davison said he believed that Stewart had been drunk when the collision occurred and had not visited the victim for 24 hours in order to avoid a driving ban.

He said: “The following day you went to his address, so you couldn’t have been that afraid of him.”

He gave the hairdresser, who has now moved to North Lincolnshire and lives in Cromwell Road, Cleethorpes, 200 hours of unpaid work and disqualified her from driving for three years.

He also fined her £300 and ordered her to pay £85 in prosecution costs and a £90 victim surcharge.
