Police officers investigating the crash on the M1 on Sunday night also want to hear from motorists with dash cam footage of the incident or the car involved before it ran out of control.

A white Volkswagen Golf was travelling on the northbound stretch of the motorway near Woodhall – between Junction 30 for Barlborough and 31 for Aston – when the driver is believed to have lost control.

Two men in the car, aged 20 and 22, died at the scene.

They have not yet been identified by South Yorkshire Police but have been named as Codeye and Tyrone in online tributes left by friends.

South Yorkshire Police said no other vehicles are believed to have been involved in the collision, which closed the motorway for a number of hours.

They want to hear from witnesses to the collision or anyone who remembers seeing the Golf beforehand.
