Suspected drunk driver arrested after smashing into Worksop bus stop

A suspected drunk driver who smashed into a bus stop on Worksop’s Carlton Road after failing to stop for police has been arrested.

The driver, aged 29, who careered into the shelter and a wall, was taken to hospital for treatment after the incident at about 9.30pm on Wednesday night.

Photos and videos from the scene showed a large cordon in place and a large police presence - while an air ambulance was also called out.

Carlton Road was closed while the incident was dealt with – reopening at around midnight.

The 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drink and drugs.

He was subsequently released under investigation while police continue their enquiries.

Inspector Kylie Davies, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "I'd urge anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have captured dashcam footage to please call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 565 of 5 August 2020."
