The force is supporting the Europe-wide TISPOL (Traffic Information System Police) co-ordinated speed enforcement campaign which is running until Sunday (22 April 2018).

Officers will be carrying out a number of speed check operations in key locations throughout the area and mobile speed cameras will be located in areas to try and identify speeding and dangerous drivers.

Other key objectives of the TISPOL campaign include educating drivers of the risks of speeding, to themselves and other road users, and increase awareness of the dangers.

Inspector Mark Whitaker, of Nottinghamshire Police’s Road Casualty Reduction Team, said: "Excessive speed has been identified as one of the ‘Fatal Four’ main causes of collisions resulting in fatal or serious injury.

"The careless and dangerous actions of one motorist can have devastating effects on the lives of others.

"Motorists exceeding the speed limit throughout Nottinghamshire can expect to be dealt with robustly. "Speed limits are the legal limit, not a guideline. By breaking the limit, you break the law."

He added: "Nottinghamshire Police is committed to making our roads safer for everyone, and this operation is another opportunity to identify and take action against motorists driving above the speed limit, causing a danger to other road users.

"Speed limits are there to protect and save lives. It must be remembered that the limit is exactly that, a limit, and not a target. If convicted of a speeding offence then you could face disqualification and a fine.

"We want motorists to plan and leave plenty of time for their journey, to pay attention and take care at all times and travel within the speed limit."
