A top South Yorkshire police officer has helped draw up a new training package for officers across the country.
Deputy Chief Constable Andy Holt is the National Police Chiefs Council’s police pursuits lead.
He said police pursuits involve officers taking a number of ‘calculated, methodical risks, reaching their decision within split seconds in a bid to protect the public and their colleagues, and still ensure they bring an offender to justice’.
DCC Holt added: “The aim of the new package is to further enhance the skills and knowledge of any officer or staff involved in the management of police pursuits, to reduce the risk of injury and ensure any pursuit is safely managed. We have had made great progress with the management of pursuits.”
