Notts man fled stolen car that “bounced 15 yards” after police chase
A Notts man who fled from a stolen car that crashed and “bounced 15 yards” after a short police chase has been sentenced at the crown court.
Police indicated for a white Audi with tinted windows to pull over on Beckhampton Road, in Bestwood, at 2.30pm, on June 25, 2019, said prosecutor Lucky Thandi.
The car, which was stolen from Barnsley four days earlier, accelerated away and overtook the vehicles in front, before rounding a bend and hitting a telegraph pole.
The Audi "bounced 15 yards" and a man in a grey hoodie got out and ran towards nearby flats.
But Daniel Donaldson was arrested holding the hoodie as he emerged from the other side of the flats on Mountfield Drive.
When interviewed he admitted being a passenger but knowing it was stolen or anything to do with the false number plates it was carrying.
Nottingham Crown Court heard he has ten previous convictions, and he was last in court in April 2018, for possession of cannabis.
David Outterside, mitigating, said: "This was a bad error of judgment.
"He is realising for the first time in his life he is going to have to start accepting help for his mental health."
Donaldson, 32, of Naomi Crescent, Bulwell, pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking as a passenger, on January 5.
Judge Gregory Dickinson QC said the 17-month delay allowed Donaldson to demonstrate he could keep out of trouble.
He sentenced him to four months, suspended for one year, and imposed a two-month curfew from 9pm to 6am. He banned him from driving for 12 months.
