The retired 68-year-old suffered three broken ribs and serious bruising to his scalp, as well as a broken leg health, professionals at Doncaster Royal Infirmary confirmed.
Mr Nevick’s niece Nicola Wright has appealed to the local community to help officers find the person responsible.
She said: "I was absolutely devastated and shocked to hear that my uncle was just left lying in the road, in the cold and dark. It's horrible.
"I guess it was just pure panic, but you shouldn't leave anyone after such a horrible incident.

"We are now appealing to anyone who saw anything that evening to get in touch with the police, so we can have justice for him.
"Thankfully, after he is now at home recovering, but still struggling to walk and get about as he usually would and now faces a long recovery on medication and rehab.
"He's retired now, so during these weird times it's important he keeps interacting with people.
"He usually gets out the house playing golf and snooker with friends, but since the accident he hasn't even been able to get to the shops and relying on others rallying round to get him food and support him as best we can.
"He is very lucky to be alive."
