Man arrested after Worksop crash leaves pedestrian with life altering injuries

A 31-year old man remains in police custody after he was arrested on suspicion of causing a collision in Worksop, which left a pedestrian with a fractured leg and head injuries, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Nottinghamshire Police were called just before 1.10am on Sunday, July 12, to the report of the collision between a car and the pedestrian in Mayfair Row, Worksop.

Ambulance crews attended the scene to treat the victim, a 37-year old man, for head injuries and leg fractures.

The man was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital by ambulance, where he is continuing to receive treatment for his injuries which are believed to be life altering but not life threatening.

The 31-year old man who was arrested at the scene remains in police custody this morning.

Sergeant Craig Luckett from Nottinghamshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit said: “A collision which has caused such serious injuries is obviously a matter of real concern for our officers, which is why we now have a team of experienced collision investigators working to understand how the man came to sustain his injuries.

“I am now directly appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the vehicle involved – a black 03-plate BMW vehicle – in the moments before the collision to contact Nottinghamshire Police as soon as possible.”

Anyone with any information about the collision is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 70 of Sunday 12 July.
