Man arrested after suspected stolen car 'chop shop' discovered in Retford

A man has been arrested in Retford following the discovery of a suspected ‘chop shop’, where cars are taken apart and sold for parts.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police were alerted to a car key burglary in West Yorkshire, where the car which had been stolen had been tracked to an address in Retford.

Following this intelligence, officers obtained a warrant for an address in Westfield Road in Retford, where car parts and stripped down cars were found.

Detective Sergeant Jamie Moore said: “A chop shop is a place where stolen cars and broken down into parts, which are either added to other cars or sold, often on online marketplace websites.

“We know what an impact it has on someone when their car is stolen, which is why we work together with other forces when there is information about a stolen vehicle.”

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary.
