Kirkby police officer Chris Young has been cleared of sexual misconduct charges he faced.

Mr Young was on trial at Derby Crown Court for three weeks for sexual misconduct charges spanning nine years.

A jury unanimously found him not guilty of three charges and he was cleared by a majority verdict of three more.

He denied the charges throughout the trial.

Judge John Burgess told the 47-year-old, “You are free to go”.

Mr Young said he was ‘over the moon’ after being acquitted and that it wan an understatement to say he was relieved.

The officer was most recently based at Hucknall, but had previously worked at Worksop.

A police spokesperson said: “In conjunction with the Crown Prosecution Service, a case was put before a jury who today have found PC Chris Young not guilty of misconduct in a public office.

“The verdict is a matter for the jury on which it would be inappropriate to comment.

“The internal conduct process in respect of the allegations against PC Young is yet to be concluded.”
