A Nottingham man who pleaded guilty to theft and fraud by false representation has been jailed for 16 weeks. Gareth Gilson, 37, of Minver Crescent, was arrested after officers were called to Wootton Close, Bilborough, on Tuesday 31 March when a District Nurse’s car was reported to have been broken in to. Gilson pleaded guilty to taking a laptop and bank cards from the car, as well as using the cards to purchase items from shops across the county. An ambulance control room call handler spotted 35-year-old Lee Clowes stashing stolen goods on wasteland in Kirkby, at 6am, on March 30. Clowes, of no fixed address, was jailed for 16 weeks after he pleaded guilty to burglary other than dwelling and theft and also two counts of theft from a motor vehicle when he appeared at Nottingham Remand Court on March 31.

Nineteen-year-old Ethan Austin will serve a minimum of 21 years behind bars after stabbing 28-year-old Lee Cooper through the heart with a weapon described as a small samurai sword. Mr Cooper was tended to at the scene but was sadly pronounced dead a short time later following the incident in Union Road, Nottingham city centre on September 14, 2019. Austin, of Ash Villas, Carrington, Nottingham, was found guilty of murder and possession of an offensive weapon – a knife ­- following a two-week trial at Derby Crown Court, on March 31.

Paul Leivers 48, of Tideswell Court, Mansfield, has been locked up after being sentenced to 12 months in jail after pleading guilty to two counts of assault on an emergency worker on March 28. He spat at police officers while claiming to have symptoms of Coronavirus, in what is believed to be one of the first such cases in the country since new powers were given to police.

Dean Collins, 42, formerly of Abbotsford Drive, Nottingham, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court for sentencing on March 17, after pleading guilty to burglary. He also admitted two counts of breaching a community behaviour order. He was jailed for a total of six years and nine months.
