A WORKSOP father-of-four was caught drink-driving after finding his wife had left him, a court heard.

Police were alerted to a Ford Transit weaving along a road near Bolsover.

Chesterfield magistrates heard how police saw the van being driven erratically and stopped it.

Driver Daniel Varey failed a roadside breathalyser test at nearly two and a half times the legal limit.

Varey, 33, a self-employed roofer, of Central Avenue, Worksop, admitted drink-driving on 10th July.

Probation officer Jerry Starnes said: “He says he had four pints and got a taxi home to find his wife had left him, so he got in the works van and drove to speak to her.”

He was given 160 hours unpaid work and banned from driving for 40 months, with £85 costs.
