20-year-old arrested after £300,000 cannabis grow discovered at Worksop home

Officers were acting on intelligence that someone was living in a caravan outside the Waverley Place property and assisting with the cannabis grow.

After knocking on the door of the house 20-year-old Ronaldo Gremi came to an open window.

The officers smelt a strong smell of cannabis and noticed bright lights coming from a doorway.

After entering the address they arrested Gremi.

The whole house had been kitted out for the purpose of growing cannabis, with around 300 plants found within at various stages of growth.

The grow was uncovered on July 1 of this year.

Gremi, of no fixed address, went on to plead guilty to the production of cannabis and yesterday he was sentenced to eight months in prison at Nottingham Crown Court.

Police Constable James Waite, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It is often said that cannabis production is not a serious crime, but this is simply not true.

“Large-scale grows like this one are very often linked to violent organised crime groups and other serious offences like human trafficking and modern slavery.

“We all have a role to play in keeping our local areas safe from drug-related crime which can have a negative impact on our communities and we will continue to pursue those individuals responsible."

A second man, who resisted arrest when officers entered the Worksop property, was also sentenced yesterday at Nottingham Crown Court.

Fotis Metsis, of East Avenue, Oldbury, Sandwell, was given a £150 fine after pleading guilty to a charge of assault on an emergency worker.
