Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, January 6, how Lisa Richardson, 37, of Welbeck Street, Creswell, attacked her 18-year-old daughter at the home of the teenager’s grandmother where the youngster has been living.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam said: “The complainant had not seen her mum for about a year until the defendant visited her while her grandmother was away.

“The daughter was with a couple of friends as she came home and was followed into the house by the defendant.”

Richardson swore and asked her daughter what she was doing at her grandmother’s home, according to Miss Haslam, and accused the teenager of turning her back on her.

Miss Haslam added: “Richardson then stood on a sofa and head-butted her daughter on her mouth cutting her lip. She scratched her daughter’s face and dragged her on to the living room floor and kicked her in the right side of her ribs.

“She grabbed her daughter’s hair and tried to lift her up with her hair until she was on her knees and then punched her to the left side of her face.

“The complainant rolled on to her back but the defendant jumped on top of her daughter and straggled her, grabbed the victim’s arms and pinned her to the floor and spat in her face and dug fingers into the corners of her eyes.

“The victim was screaming and shouting to be let go. She managed to get free but was punched again and kicked to the back of her legs while lying on the floor.”

The court heard how the complainant’s friends managed to drag the defendant out of the home and Richardson banged on the door before fleeing on a bicycle.

Richardson had pleaded not guilty to the assault but was found guilty after a previous trial was heard in her absence and she admitted failing to surrender to bail.

Defence solicitor Steve Brint said: “The defendant is a lady who has had trouble with drugs and alcohol in the past and her child was put in the care of her mother.”

He added that Richardson comes from a violent background and has been a victim herself and has turned to drink and drugs for solace.

Magistrates sentenced Richardson to 26 weeks of custody after the assault in July, last year.

They also imposed a two-year restraining order for her not to contact her daughter directly or indirectly.

She was also ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge.
