Credit card cloning warning in Worksop

Marc Tindle, 38, from Keswick Road in Worksop, is just one local person who has been targeted.

“Last week I got a phone call from the Natwest fraud squad,” he said.

“The asked me to confirm a number of transactions that had taken place in America - but I’ve never been to America in my life.”

Marc then discovered that the unauthorised transaction for $100 was the result of his card being cloned. He has since received a refund, but would like to see the authorities take a firmer stance.

“I think that the banks and police should be taking more action to tackle this,” he said. “I’ve heard of this happen to a few other people but you never think it will happen to you.”

Notts Police issued this advice:

l If your card is lost or stolen contact your card issuer immediately

l Always keep your card in your sight when making a payment.

l Ensure that receipts from card transactions are discarded carefully.

l Check your card statements carefully.

l Never write down your PIN or disclose it to anyone, even if they say they’re from your card issuer or the police.
