Court gives clean-up order

A court hearing last week demanded they restore it to its previous condition by 11th September.

Worksop magistrates rejected an appeal by landowners, Jollyland Ltd against a notice served by Bassetlaw District Council, and awarded costs of £8232.30 to the authority.

The landowners now have two months to:

• Arrange for all waste to be removed from the land.

• Clear any residual pollution resulting from the burning of waste on the land.

• Restore the land to its former condition, an area of grassed land.

Coun Julie Leigh, portfolio holder for environment and leisure said: “This sends out a clear message that we will not tolerate environmental crime in Bassetlaw.”

“Landowners have a legal obligation to keep their land clear of refuse and litter and we will actively pursue all those who do not take appropriate steps to tackle these issues.”

“Bassetlaw is a beautiful district and, by using enforcement action where necessary we intend to keep it that way. I would like to thank the police, Environment Agency, Notts Fire and Rescue Service and members of the public for providing supporting evidence to the court and I look forward to seeing the clean-up begin.”
