Losing a bit of excess weight is a New Year’s resolution for many, but for the chairman of Notts County Council losing up to two stone will gain pounds for The Royal British Legion.
Coun Keith Walker is appealing for people to sponsor him for every half a stone he loses by the end of his term in office this May.
A healthy-eating plan which restricts his food and drink intake to 1,500 calories per day, exercising on his cross-trainer at home and walking more will be the main ways he sets out to lose the weight.
“I went to my doctor’s surgery before Christmas and was told that my ideal weight should be 11 and half stone,” said coun Walker.
“I knew I was a bit overweight but it was very sobering to be told that my current weight makes me more at risk of heart disease and diabetes.”
“It’s going to be tough as I get offered lots of cakes and rich food on my engagements but I am determined to reach my goal not only for the sake of my health but also to raise money for my charity.”
He hopes to continue his weight loss once he achieves his initial target of two stone so that he reaches his medically ideal weight.
People wanting to sponsor coun Walker can do so by contacting the county council on 0115 977 3201 or filling in a donation available at County Hall, West Bridgford, or online at www.justgiving.com/cllrkeithwalker.
