Bassetlaw Council is working towards its budget for the next financial year and is having to making £920,000 of savings.

As part of the proposals, the council plans to increase Council tax by 1.5 per cent, the equivalent of 4p per week for Band D properties.

Council Tax has been frozen by Bassetlaw Council since 2009/10.

Council leader, Coun Simon Greaves said: “I do not like increasing it (Council Tax). I have been mindful of the pressures that people are under with increases in the cost of living.”

“We are at the tipping point where we are looking at increasing it as part of the solution.”

“If we kept it frozen then I would be fearful that in a few years we would be looking at service failure.”
