Council launch new phone app

BASSETLAW Council has launched a brand-new mobile phone app to help residents on the go report the issues which matter at the click of a button.

The free download enables anyone with a smartphone to alert the council about a range of issues from fly-tipping and car parks to littering and missed bin collections.

Users can also attach information such as photos to their report which will be processed by the council’s customer service department.

Senior manager for support services Steve Brown said the app is a great way for people to report problems in their area - day or night.

“Everyone is living busy lives - someone might come home after work and see something they want to report,” he said.

“This lets them do just that without having to wait for the council offices to open the next day.

And even though the Bassetlaw Council app primarily deals with district-wide issues, it also enables users to report concerns to any authority - wherever they are.

It even links with GPS technology which helps the council to pinpoint exactly where the problems are.

Said Steve: “It has been designed so you can be anywhere in the country and report an issue to the relevant local authority.”

“It’s also a one-stop shop for users, so even if it’s something which will be dealt with at county level we will forward it to the right people.”

Portfolio holder for support services Coun Sylvia May welcomed the new app in helping people to get in touch with the council and improve their safety and welfare.

“It’s a really quick and easy way of communicating with the council,” she said.

“It’s surprising just how many people young and old use this technology, and it means that if you’re unsure about anything in your area you can do something about it.”

The Bassetlaw Council app is completely free to download - just search ‘Bassetlaw’ in your smartphone store.
