Last month, bosses announced they are putting a number of roles in head office, supply chain and retail departments under consultation at their Worksop base on Roebuck Way.

It has been reported and speculated by trade media that 170 jobs could go at the Wilko headquarters in Worksop.

However the company are still remaining quiet about how many jobs are actually under threat and it is thought the consultation process could last for weeks, as Wilko try and figure out what is the best thing to do.

The first consultation session began on Monday 3rd November.

Wilko released a statement earlier in the month saying: “This ongoing programme is essential to maintaining Wilko’s unique place as a modern, national retailer.”

“We have to ensure we have the right people in the right places to keep the business moving forward.”

“New technologies, processes and ways of working have led us to identify certain posts which are no longer appropriate on variety, value, choice, quality and customer service.”

The company also said that the business remains financially strong in a challenging trading environment.

The proposed changes or cuts will allow Wilko to react quickly in the fast moving retail environment by ensuring its structures and cost base are in line with its trading performance and the market place.

A former employee who worked in head office at the Worksop base said: “I feel so sorry for all the people who have families to support and who might lose their jobs right before Christmas, I could see this happening.”
