COMMUNITY: carlton - WI

Carltons WI's members enjoyed something of a gourmet evening at their June meeting. The guest speaker was Mr Steve Shelley from Retford's Deli and Dine. Steve came laden with an assortment of delicious foods and after sampling some of these delights the group quickly realised how much better tasting (and smelling) artisan-produced cheeses are than the varieties offered by the supermarkets. A browse at Deli and Dine is definitely on members shopping lists from now on.

The Queen has been very much in the news these past few weeks as the nation celebrates her 90th birthday. The group’s celebrations in honour of Her Majesty continue later this week with a right royal tea party hosted by member, Lesley Chrispin. If past form is anything to go by, we’ll be dodging the showers, thunder and lightning – but a drop of rain will not spoil the fun.

Looking ahead, the group is going to the dogs in October – not literally ‘going to the dogs’ – but a visit to Owlerton Stadium is planned and as a Christmas treat members are going to Norfolk for the Thursford Christmas Spectacular in December. Normal activities continue; the Luncheon Club meet every two months, the Walking Group every Monday morning on The Green at 9.15am, the Darts Group meet Monday evenings at the Sherwood Ranger and the Gardening Club meet monthly at the Anne Daniels Centre on Dadley Road.
