When You Wish Upon a Star is national charity which grants the wishes of children living with life threatening illnesses.

The charity was founded in Nottingham by Barbara White, who was so inspired by a seriously ill four-year-old, who dreamt of meeting Mickey Mouse, she wanted to bring smiles to the faces of many more brave and courageous children.

PPG, which manufactures popular paint brands Johnstone’s and Leyland, has raised an incredible total of £97,105 for the children’s charity – helping to grant the wishes of children living with life threatening illnesses across the country.

Thanks to the long-standing support of PPG, When You Wish Upon A Star has been able to transport children away from hospital appointments, creating magical memories for them and their loved ones.

Nicola Brien, regional fund-raising manager at When You Wish Upon A Star, said: “The continued support of PPG is invaluable to us as it helps us to bring happiness to families during hard and emotional times.

“The funds raised will help us to create precious memories for these children and their loved ones, which remain in their hearts forever.

“We are delighted PPG has chosen to support us for a third year.”

Last year saw PPG donate £52,000 to When You Wish Upon A Star, helping the charity grant numerous wishes and take children on an action-packed trip to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London.

Paul Dowie, human resources director at PPG commented: “For many years we raised funds for a number of charities in a number of different ways.

“But we wanted to make a bigger impact and put the entirety of our nationwide manpower behind one life changing charity.

“In 2013 we put forward a number of charities to our people and asked them to vote for the charity they most wanted to support.

“The resounding result was in favour of When You Wish Upon A Star and we have been in partnership with the charity ever since!

“We are delighted to be in our third year of this partnership and hope to grant even more wishes.

“The most amazing part of fundraising for When You Wish Upon A Star has been the overwhelming support we have received from our people; who have continued to run wacky races

and face challenges in support of the charity.”

PPG has raised its phenomenal funds for the charity through activities including When You Wish Upon A Star’s Wish Week, coffee and cake events and bake off challenges.

Nicola added: “Our corporate supporters are wonderful people, and their support and time really makes a difference to our work. We encourage all of our supporters to get creative when fund-raising.

“We love to see how different businesses and individuals make events their own and have fun while fund-raising.”
