College represented at Scott memorial service

WORKSOP College head and former pupil Katie Walter attended a service at St Paul’s Cathedral to mark the centenary of the death of captain Robert Falcon Scott.

Katie, from Sutton cum Lound, is the youngest person ever to be involved in an expedition to the South Pole when, at the age of 17, she trekked to the South Pole in December 2009.

The college helped to raise funds for Scott’s expedition in 1911-12, sponsoring some of Frank Debenham’s equipment.

Debenham was the young geologist on the expedition who returned and, as Professor of Geography at Cambridge, went on to found the Scott Polar Research Institute at Cambridge.
