Club gets a taste of Italy

MEDITERRANEAN flavours came to town as Gainsborough and District Ladies Luncheon Club welcomed along Rosa Tidy for a talk entitled Simple Life In Italy, Busy Life in England.

Rosa was born in Naples in 1938 and was one of five children. Her mother was Sicilian and her father was Neopolitan.

She told the club of how her first memories were of the poverty and devastation of Naples in the post-war years, and how her rebellious elder sister defied her parents at the age of 18 when she moved to England to marry an Englishman.

Although her parents refused to visit, Rosa stayed with her sister for three months, enjoying a relatively relaxed lifestyle and becoming an au pair in Liverpool.
