Rebecca Webster made the final 37 in Slimming World’s Young Slimmer of the Year 2015 competition out of all 13,000 Slimming World groups across the UK and Ireland.

The competition recognises the achievements of young people aged 16 to 21 in making long-term lifestyle changes to become fitter, healthier and happier.

Rebecca joined the Dronfield Woodhouse Slimming World group in November 2013 to help transform her lifestyle and to boost her self-esteem - and since then has lost 5st 3lbs in weight.

She said: “I used to feel like a recluse, I wouldn’t go out of the house because of my anxiety and depression.”

“It affected my confidence and I didn’t want to be like that for the rest of my life.”

“I wanted to make changes and I knew I needed help to do that.”

“I heard about Slimming World and decided to join the Dronfield Woodhouse group with my mum.”

“I was really nervous but everyone was friendly and helpful and it was much easier than I expected to start making healthy choices,” she added.

Her fellow members voted for her to represent them in the Young Slimmer of the Year competition and she was invited to the semi-finals, which were held at Slimming World’s head office in Alfreton.

It was there she met singer Simon Webbe, who went along to Slimming World to make the day extra special for the youngsters taking part.

Simon, who shot to fame in boyband Blue and was a runner-up in BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing last year, was bowled over by Rebecca’s achievements.

He said: “All of the young slimmers I met, like Rebecca, have shown that their health is important to them and they’re proof that given the right tools it is possible to make positive changes whatever your age.

“Losing weight hasn’t just made them fitter and healthier either, it’s boosted their self-confidence, too.

“Rebecca should be really proud of herself.”
