Clowne: Local fashion queen proving a point after reaching national hairdressing competition final

Clowne hairdresser Becky Candy is out to prove a point after reaching the finals of the Entrepreneur category of a national hairdressing competition.

Candy, 30, reached the final of The It List after compiling a 2,000 word portfolio that creatively details her business, Becky Candy Salons, and now she has made the final five shortlist ahead of the Grand Final on 1st September at the Tate Modern in London.

The competition, though, is not all about propelling her career into the stratosphere.

“I have entered the competition before, but this year was the last I could enter this particular one,” Becky told the Guardian.

“I want to prove that you don’t have to be London to be successful in this industry.”

Trained by her mother after leaving school, Becky has worked on music videos and will, again, be working at London Fashion Week next month, but what is the secret to her success?

Great teaching, secret products. Maybe a small bit of both, but the overriding factor in her success has been pure determination.

“It’s my biggest dream to win an award like this to show you don’t just have to be working down London,” Becky added.

“You just need the drive and determination to succeed.”
