CHRISTMAS LIGHTS: Worksop’s ‘big switch on’ promises to be best yet

Bridge Street and Bridge Place will become a bustling hub of Christmas-themed entertainment from 12pm with a festive market selling food and gifts, choirs, balloon making and dance performances.

Youngsters can visit Santa in his grotto at 87 Bridge Street and the high street’s cafes will be offering mince pies.

The event is being organised by Worksop Business Forum in association with Robert Linacre who are installing over 70 trees and hundreds of lights on the high street’s building to give Worksop it’s most colourful Christmas yet.

The highlight of the day will be the big switch-on, which will take place at 5.30pm in Market Square.

“This event is not to be missed and is a fantastic way to start off your Christmas celebrations,” said Philip Jackson, chair of the business forum.

“We would like to thank Barry Jackson, chair of the Christmas committee at Bassetlaw Council, and other members of council staff for theri help and support.”

Christmas festivities will begin at Worksop’s Priory Shopping Centre on the same day when film star, David Bradley, will visit the centre for its annual light switch on.

David is best known for his starring role as the young boy Billy Casper in the critically acclaimed and much remembered 1969 film ‘Kes’.

David Aunins, centre manager of the Priory, csaid: “To celebrate this festive occasion we have brought in the much-loved actor from a well-known film of many of our childhoods. They’ll be fun for all the family and a great festive buzz so make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to get in the Christmas spirit.”

The day will be filled with plenty of fun festive activities starting at 2:30pm with appearances from the Priory School Choir and the Salvation Army, before the big light switch on at 4:30pm.
