Choir in fine voice at big arena show

Not many primary school pupils get the chance to perform on an arena stage.

But that is exactly what youngsters from Kingston Park Primary School and Nursery School choir got to do recently.

On Monday 5th December, the choir took part in Young Voices 2011 at Sheffield’s Motorpoint arena.

The concert pulls together the world’s largest children’s choir with over 40 school choirs filling the arena and singing the same songs together with some up and coming vocal artists.

This year the choirs were joined by singer-songwriter Randolph Matthews, platinum selling Irish band The High Kings back from a 30 date tour of USA where they played to critical acclaim and 11 year old Connie Talbot - 2007 Britain’s Got Talent contestant.

The choir, who had worked hard for months to learn the songs for the concert, spent the afternoon rehearsing and then put on a spectacular performance in the evening.

They sang 15 songs including a Queen medley, Something Inside So Strong, Power In Me, and a pop medley featuring Bruno Mars’ Just the way you Are and Firework by Katy Perry.

Headteacher Vicky Helliwell said: “It was one of the proudest moments of my time as headteacher of this school.”

“The children had a great time singing and dancing all night. They had rehearsed for several weeks every Friday after school.”

“They had a great time and haven’t stopped talking about it since. They even gave some impromptu recitals at the school’s Christmas concerts.”
