Charity family fun day will honour and remember Dave

Dave Maiden sadly passed away suddenly on January 9, aged 54.

To honour his memory on Saturday, June 10, there will be a summer festival starting at 1pm until 5pm at Valley Fields, next to Worksop Leisure Centre in Valley Road, Worksop.

The festival has free entry and will have live entertainment, a DJ, refreshments, a football staff versus students tournament and performances from some of the finalists from Worksop’s Got Talent 2016.

All money raised on the day will go towards Dave’s family’s chosen charity, Young Minds, the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.

Dave, who was a North Notts College Sports Tutor, continually promoted health and wellbeing through the Apple Fitness gym in Worksop, Annurca and at North Notts College. 

He was named the Bassetlaw Coach of the Year in 2014 for his voluntary work with Retford Athletics Club along with many other activities he was involved in.

In memory of Dave the day will be filled with lots of fun activities and stalls so there will be something for everyone.

Friend and colleague of Dave’s, Lucy Willets, said: “Dave was a much loved colleague and friend to many at North Notts College.

“He was a loving family man with a wife and two wonderful children.

“Dave was a positive, optimistic, loyal and genuine man.

“He was nominated Bassetlaw Coach of the Year in 2014 for his voluntary work with Retford Athletics Club and was the founder of Apple Fitness in Worksop several years ago.”

Friend of Dave’s, Lewis Smith, said: “Dave influenced and inspired so many lives and deserves a tribute like this.

“It’s a great opportunity for students past and present and colleagues to come together for a tribute.”
