Center Parcs launches Summer Jobs campaign with a visit from Secretary of State Esther McVey

The Secretary of State, Esther McVey, met young people doing seasonal work at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest and heard how a summer job is helping them get experience on a CV and develop practical skills so they can ‘stand out from the crowd’ when they apply for future roles.

Esther McVey said: “Taking the first step into the world of work early in life, even for a few hours or days a week over the summer, can really help someone stand out from the crowd later down the line.

“The experience young people gain in a summer job helps them build skills that many people take for granted but which are essential.

“I’m encouraging young people to take advantage of more than just the sun this summer – for them to get out there and get a taster of the world of work.”

While at the site, the Secretary of State also spoke to the site’s Deputy General Manager Steve Robinson, whose own experience highlights the benefits of a summer job, having started working for the company 25 years ago on a summer job when he was a sixth former as a Sports Assistant.

Steve Robinson said: “This campaign is to encourage people to get a summer job as they are a great way to learn valuable life skills as well as planning and organisational skills.”

“I applied for a full time position and haven’t looked back since.”
