A DINNINGTON dance school celebrated its birthday with a very special performance last week.
The Julie Turner Stage Academy marked its 25th year with a one-off show at the Lyric Theatre in Dinnington last Saturday night.
“It was brilliant. The show went really well and everyone really enjoyed the evening,” said owner Julie Turner.
“We used a lot of music that we have used over the last 25 years in the performance, and reworked it with new dances, which was nice for the people who have watched us over the years.”
“The whole school has been involved in the show. And some of the girls who have been with us for 10 years and more were presented with awards on the night,” she added.
And after the curtain closed on the performance, everyone was able to let their hair down at a special party.
The school opened back in 1987, under the name Happy Feet, holding classes for pupils at Woodsetts Cricket Pavilion and local church halls.
Eventually the school moved into its own premises at Studio 32 in Dinnington and became the Julie Turner Stage Academy.
“We started out with just about twenty pupils and now we have probably taught thousands over the last 25 years,” said Julie.
“It is quite scary at times as we have now started to get some of our former students bringing their own children along to our classes.”
“It’s been a brilliant 25 years and we are looking forward to the next 25,” she added.
Now the celebrations are over the students are turning their attentions to their next competition in Blackpool on Saturday 24th November.
And after that they will be performing their annual Christmas show at the Majestic Theatre in Retford on Sunday 16th December.
The stage academy offers classes in all aspects of stage dance and has two studios. The emphasis is on fun while learning in a happy, caring environment.
