Celebrating 100 years of scouting

scouting groups from across Worksop district joined together to celebrate 100 years of the organisation in the town.

Around 400 scouts, cubs and beavers and their leaders attended a service at the Priory Church led by Father Nicholas Spicer, himself a former scout.

Among the invited guests was Notts scouting president Sir Andrew Buchanan, and the welcome was given by district president Vincent Hooton.

Acting district secretary Mick Taylor, who organised the service with district chairman Tony Cooke, said: “It was a great event and a great way to end our year of celebrations.”

“The church was packed. The Retford scout band played outside the church before we went in, and inside the hymns were played by the Notts police band.”

“There were contributions from all the groups and we had video clips, then after the service we served refreshments.”
