Caught in possession

POLICE found two bags of amphetamine when they stopped and searched a Creswell man, a court heard.

Stephen Newton, 33, was searched in Kingsway, Hodthorpe, and the drugs, worth about £15, were taken from him.

“He said he had not been using them but he started again following a fall-out with his partner and he would use £100 worth a week,” prosecutor Becky Mahon told Chesterfield magistrates.

Newton, of Duke Street, Creswell, admitted possessing amphetamine on 9th February and was fined £85, with £85 costs. The drugs will be destroyed. He had no previous drug convictions but he received a 12-week jail sentence, suspended for a year, last July for possessing a knife in public.
