Catwalk queens raise charity cash

The third spring fashion show in Aston helped to raise £300 for Annie’s charity.

The event, at Central Methodist Church, saw women of all ages take to the catwalk and model the latest spring and summer wear.

And if those watching liked what they saw then following the show they could buy the clothes, along with accessories.

“Despite the weather it went really well,” said Val Jones, who helps run the newly refurbished charity shop in Aston.

“Everyone said the host Elly Campsill, who is the image consultant for the Eye for Image Company, had done a fantastic job.”

“Everyone had a really good night.”

All proceeds were donated to Annie’s Orphans charity, which will go towards helping people who live in poverty stricken countries.

The Annie’s Store and Annie’s Attic on Rosegarth Avenue in Aston is now bigger and better than ever following a recent refurbishment.

The shops used to be two adjacent premises, one filled with general goods and the other with electrical and furniture.

Val said: “We are now one big shop as of the beginning of the month.”

All the proceeds from the shop go to the charity, which was set up 12 years ago by Pastor Pauline Edwards who leads a Pentecostal church in Bangor, North Wales.

On a trip to India she was overwhelmed by the poverty and the effect it was having on people.

The charity helps various orphanages, hostels, schools and people in various countries including Pakistan.

The current projects are helping build a primary school and medical clinic in Burundi, Africa and part-funding students through their education in Uganda.

Val said: “Additional to the dramatic effect that the charity has had internationally, the local shops have a track record of helping home grown volunteers improve their life and work skills by encouraging them to take NVQ qualifications.”
