Twenty three year-old Daniel Watson and his partner Charlotte Jane Kirby, also 23, are taking part in the Buggy Push on 31st May, for the second year running, to raise funds for Jessops maternity hospital in Sheffield where their son George spent the first 11 weeks of his life.

The doting couple were thrilled when they discovered they were going to be parents in March 2013, with their baby boy due to born in December.

However, when Charlotte went for some routine test results for gestational diabetes, it was discovered she had raised blood pressure and was rushed to Jessops in Sheffield.

The very next day, Charlotte’s blood pressure went so high that she nearly went into cardiac arrest so George had to be delivered immediately.

Charlotte, who is a student and originally from Reading, said on behalf of them both:“ It was absolutely beyond terrifying finding out that George was going to be born early, it’s not something you even think about when you find out you are pregnant.”

“It was overwhelming and we didn’t know what to expect, but Jessops were absolutely amazing and supported us throughout our whole journey and saved our son’s life.”

“In our eyes they are heroes and we are eternally grateful to everyone there for all they have done for us.”

The Buggy Push event now in its second year will take place at Rother Valley Country Park in Sheffield, where participants have the choice of the full 5K route around both lakes or the shorter route around the big lake.

The walk will start at 11am and will end with a picnic on the green for all participants and their families. The day will also be filled with entertainment for the children including balloon modelling and a ball pit.

Ruth Block, fundraiser at Sheffield Hospitals Charity said: “Last year’s buggy push was a fabulous day that brought so many families together who have experienced first-hand what a fabulous institution Jessops is, and how lucky we are to have this world-class facility on our doorstep.”

“The dedicated staff team at Jessops provide expert care for its tiny patients and the money raised from the event will go towards continuing to provide the specialist equipment, pioneering research and patient and family support services.”

Daniel and Charlotte have also won the charity’s Facebook competition to come up with a strapline for the t-shirts this year with the line – ‘Walking for Miracles’ which will feature on the t-shirts that everyone will wear during the event.
