Dr James Greenwood, who works at Westwood and Larwood surgeries in Worksop, was presented with the accolade in a surprise ceremony this week.

The nomination was made by resident Susan Pimperton, who finally bounced back from her long-term illness when the GP tracked down a neurologist that could help her.

Susan said: “Dr Greenwood is so caring and makes sure you leave the surgery feeling reassured.

“He has been a great help to me and also to other patients who I have spoken to.

“I’ve been feeling much better since I’ve been in his care.”

Susan said Dr Greenwood was “shocked” to receive a Guardian Rose.

She said: “He didn’t expect it at all and said he didn’t understand what he’d done to deserve it.

“He says he’s just doing his job.

“But he was very pleased and proud as were the nurses who work with him.

“They’re going to hang a copy of the photo in the waiting room where everyone can see it.

“I wanted to show him that he is appreciated in the community.”

Our Guardian Roses are generously donated by Walker’s House of Flowers, based in the Priory Shopping Centre.

The award continues to highlight some of the fantastic work being done in our communities.

Perhaps you know someone who goes that extra mile to help others?

If you do, then why not nominate them for a Guardian Rose and give them the credit they deserve.

The award is free and the story will appear in the paper and online.
