Cardiff Devils 4-5 Sheffield Steelers

Sheffield Steelers pulled off a stunning, last-gasp win in the Challenge Cup in South Wales tonight.

They put Cardiff Devils to the sword 5-4 in a night the home side was trying to make up for home losses to Nottingham Panthers and Coventry Blaze.

It was the South Yorkshire side's fifth straight win.

Zack Fitzgerald was a welcome scorer to open Sheffield's account after 10 minutes - his first of the season.

Mark Richardson equalised for the Welsh.

But then came an astonishing 3-0 middle period for Paul Thompson's road men.

John Armstrong, Jesse Schultz and Tyler Mosienko all stuck the puck away to give Sheffield a 4-1 lead.

Chris Mulligan brought one back for Devils at 48;15 to re-ignite Cardiff's hopes.

But then came a flattener for them - on-form Schultz getting the second of the night - and his sixth goal in four games.

it looked game over with 11 minutes left.

But Devils had a late shocker - two goals in a minute from Andrew Hotham and Patrick Asselin.

That made for an exciting finish - but Steelers had done enough in the middle period to grab the two points.

Steelers are at home on Sunday to Devils at Sheffield Arena face off 5pm.
