Terrance Stephen Cooper, 55, denied beating the woman on Haywood Avenue in Blidworth on August 30, 2015, but he was found guilty in a trial on August 1 at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court.

The court heard Cooper met an old friend who was with two women, one of whom had been involved in a legal case against one of Cooper’s friends.

One of the women remarked that Cooper’s friend was never going to change.

Neil Hollett, prosecuting, told magistrates that Cooper said: “If she doesn’t shut her mouth I am going to kill her.

“He kicked out at the victim but she laughed at him.

“At that point he misheard what she said. He punched her on the nose.”

The court heard the injury required four separate hospital visits.

Treve Lander, mitigating, said: “This is a very unfortunate incident.

“Since his release from prison in 2010 he has settled down.

“He has a varied record but he has made efforts to stay out of trouble since his release.

“There were definitely two sides to this.

“It’s a great shame that a very pleasant conversation between two friends went the way it did.”

The court heard Cooper currently lives in a caravan on land off Beck Lane, in Blidworth.

Magistrates imposed an 8pm to 6am curfew on him for ten weeks, which will be electronically monitored.

He was ordered to pay £100 compensation towards his victim and £400 towards the cost of the trial.
