Callum who had ‘heart of gold’ will ‘not be forgotten’

Callum Douce, 19, of Eastern Avenue, was killed when his blue Fiat Punto was in collision with a Scania artic lorry on Wednesday 31st July.

Tributes have been flooding in from family, friends and people who knew Callum.

His girlfriend of three years, Kaeleigh Hart, told the Standard that the support from everyone in Gainsborough was ‘unreal’ and ‘comforting’.

“The support both of our families have been given is unreal,” said Kaeleigh, 17.

“People have been coming round every day. We have always had someone there keeping us company, even in the middle of the night. It makes it a bit easier.”

Last Friday night, around 40 friends and family let off balloons in Callum’s memory.

Said Kaeleigh: “It was amazing and comforting that so many people came.”

Callum’s sister Danielle Douce wrote on the Gainsborough Standard Facebook page: “Rip Callum you were a fantastic brother and you had a heart of gold. You would do anything for us and I will make sure Lucas knows you were the best uncle. You have made it his best first few months. Sleep tight sweetheart xxxxxxxxxxx Save me a seat next to you. Love you so much.”

John Harker wrote: “What a pleasure it was to of known Callum. We have watched him grow up into a lovely lad. Our hearts go out to all of his family and friends and girlfriend and family. He will never be forgotten. Sleep tight Callum.”

Fans at Tuesday’s friendly football match between Gainsborough Trinity and Gainsborough Town held a minute’s silence for Callum.

A Gainsborough Town FC spokesman said: “He was a friend to many of our team and part of the Gainsborough community.”
