Permission has been granted to extend Clowne Sports Centre with a new swimming pool as part of plans to move facilities away from Creswell Leisure Centre.

Bolsover District Council - which award a contract to Pulse Fitness to build a new £4million enhanced leisure facility at the council’s sport facilities, at the Arc, on High Street, Clowne - has now granted planning permission for the developers to build a two-storey extension.

The plans mean the council’s swimming pool operation at Creswell Leisure Centre, which is owned by a trust, is expected to stop and the centre could lose its pool unless another organisation takes it over.

The Clowne extension will include a swimming pool, a baby pool, a water flume, children’s play area, two dance studios, extended fitness suite, improved changing facilities, cafe and reception.

The development will also see an extension to the car parking facilities already in place. Construction must start within three years from receiving approval and a travel plan must be created to ensure sustainable travel modes and to monitor additional vehicle movements.
