A ‘VITAL’ bus service between Worksop and Doncaster is back, four years after campaigners lost their battle to stop it being axed.
The Stagecoach 21 service was back up and running on Monday.
The new route goes from Worksop through Langold, Oldcotes, Harworth, Bircotes and on to its final destination, Doncaster.
But it no longer serves the estates off the main road.
In 2007, Rachel Hughes, 39, from Langold collected a petition of 700 signatures to try and save the service.
“It’s great that the 21 bus is back, it goes to show that the public are right and they should be listened to,” she said.
The original service was replaced by a bus from Worksop to Robin Hood Airport, explained Dave Skepper, director of Stagecoach East Midlands.
“That has been successful, increasing the number of people able to access the airport, and with the introduction of low floor accessible buses,” he said.
“But one of the down sides was it broke some of the links between the smaller communities in North Bassetlaw, towards Doncaster.”
“People suggested that the loss of that link with Doncaster was not what they wanted, and that was taken on board in the decision to bring the bus back.”
The 21 runs every hour from Worksop and Doncaster. See www.stagecoachbus.com for times.
