Bullies are tackled with choice words
BUDDING poet Olivia Hurt has had her wordy work recognised at a national level after coming second in a poetry competition.
The Worksop Priory C of E Primary School pupil, 11, entered her anti-bullying poem Unaccompanied Girl into the national Go-Givers contest.
And to her delight, her ditty was chosen as joint second out of 586 entries.
Said Olivia: “I really enjoy writing so winning the competition is brilliant.”
“It gives me the chance to show what I can do, and get some fun things for the rest of my class.”
Support tutor Mrs Lesley Howard said Olivia was very excited about coming second.
“We had several entries but Olivia wrote hers all by herself and has done amazingly well,” said Mrs Howard.
Now she and her classmates are looking forward to spending the £75 prize.
The competition asked entrants to write a short story or poem to convey the hurt that verbal bullying can cause.
