Britain’s ‘Most Selfless mum’

Following a nationwide search Britain’s Most Selfless Mum has been crowned - and she is from Worksop.

Rose Pond received the honour on Tuesday after a countrywide campaign by pub chain Sizzling Pubs.

The 53-year-old mum-of-two was crowned the regional winner for the East Midlands and competed with eight other regional winners to scoop the national title.

The Sizzling Pubs team whittled down the entries after long and hard consideration and Rose came out victorious.

They say her entry stood out from the rest because of her ‘ongoing commitment and dedication to her family and local community’.

Rose said: “I was so delighted to be in with a chance of winning the national title, out of all the nominations I can’t believe that I was chosen.”

“I’m still shocked that my daughter Helen nominated me, it was such a lovely thought and now I can’t wait to treat myself and enjoy a night off for a change.”

And although she was over the moon to receive the accolade, a modest Rose still doesn’t see that what she does for her family as being anything out of the ordinary.

“I’m just a normal mum. I try to be a good mum and I hope that I am,” she added.

“It’s all been a little bit overwhelming really, but I really appreciate it and am really touched. It’s nice to know what you do is appreciated be people.”

Rose was nominated for the award by her youngest daughter Helen - and had no idea what she had done until she was told she had won.

“I nominated her for the award because she has always been a selfless person,” said Helen. “

“She is a perfect mum and I just wanted to say thank you for all that she has done for us.”

“It doesn’t matter what time of the day or night it is, if you call her and say you have a problem or need help with something she is there for you straight away. She is amazing,” she added.

Rose received her award surrounded by her family at The Millhouse pub in Worksop on Tuesday.

She was presented with a trophy and bouquet of flowers by staff member Rachel Adie, before enjoying a well deserved glass of bubbly and a bite to eat with her guests.

This is the first year the pub chain has run the campaign, making Rose the first every winner of the title.

Victoria Jupe, Sizzling Pubs spokeswoman said: “We are a family brand and wanted to champion mums across the country and give them something back.”

“All eight regional winners were really deserving and it was a difficult decision to make but Rose stood out with total devotion and always putting her family first.”

“At Sizzling Pubs, we believe that mums have a lot on their plates so the prize is the perfect excuse to put her feet up.”

As well as her trophy and flowers, Rose won £100 of Sizzling Pubs vouchers to enjoy a special meal at her local venue as well as £50 of M&S vouchers to treat herself.
