BREAKING: Marks & Spencer to quit Worksop town centre in move to Retford
M&S has today announced it is planning to close its Worksop Simply Food store in The Priory Shopping Centre '“ to move to a site in Retford.
If the proposal goes ahead all 40 colleagues would be guaranteed redeployment at nearby stores.
The announcement is part of wider proposals to close six stores across the UK. If the proposal goes ahead, the store would close later this year.
M&S plans to open a larger food store in Retford next year.
Rebecca Newby, Regional Manager at M&S, said: “Proposing to close the store is not a decision we have taken lightly. We are now working closely with our colleagues and it is our intention that none of the team would leave M&S if the proposal goes ahead.
“Customer shopping patterns are changing and we need to change with our customers. As a result, we are planning to open a new Foodhall in Retford which will be a larger store, will stock a wider selection of quality and innovative products and have a new M&S Café.”
