Brass summer school in July

Budding brass musicians can now learn from the best as Bolsover District Council stages its annual Brass Summer School – hosted by double champions Fodens Band.

Places are still available for the week long summer school, directed by Fodens star players Mark Wilkinson and Glyn Williams helped by a host of tutors from the champions.

Held at Heritage High School in Clowne from 23rd to 28th July, participants will enjoy expert tuition, learn new musical skills and techniques and experience playing at top local tourist attractions.

The participants will also play a trio of concerts. The first is at 2pm on Friday 26th July at Hardwick Hall, then on Saturday 27th July they will be at Creswell Crags, also at 2pm. The final concert is at Heritage High School in Clowne on Sunday 28th July at 6.45pm.

Mark Bousie of Fodens will also lead a one day junior brass and percussion for players up to Associated Board Grade 5 equivalent on Thursday 25th July from 9am to 5pm at Heritage High School.

Mark will also lead a brass for beginners course on Friday 26th July, to allow aspiring young musicians aged four to nine to 9 to be discover the joys of playing a brass instrument.
