Parents, pupils and staff at Ranby House School generously donated items for this year’s Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Shoe Box Appeal.

A mound of shoe boxes in the school’s chapel steadily grew to dizzying heights as children brought in their brightly wrapped boxes.

Volunteers from Samaritan’s Purse came to the school to collect the shoe boxes and, with the children, they made a human chain to transport the boxes from the chapel to the collection vehicle.

A school spokesman said: “The volunteers expressed great gratitude and thanks, particularly to Mrs Quinlan who organised the collection in the prep school and to Mrs Connor for her organisation in the pre-prep.”

“The shoeboxes had been thoughtfully filled with toys, accessories, toiletries and sweets for boys and girls in areas of the world where there is great poverty and hardship and for whom a shoebox brings a little ray of hope, laughter and fun.” A total of 109 boxes came from the prep school and a further 42 from the pre-prep.
