Boozy student hit parked Mini in Mansfield

Joseph Storey’s Ford Ka was discovered by police on Chesterfield Road North, at around 7.50am, on January 20.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and finally took a breath test at 9.40am, which revealed he had 59 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Prosecutor Neil Hollett said Storey gave a no-comment interview, which forced police to collect DNA evidence from the Ka’s airbags and analyse his mobile phone to confirm he was the driver.

Rebecca Williams, mitigating, said: “He enters a guilty plea at the first opportunity. He had been drinking the night before but thought he would be OK to drive.

“Since these events he has lost his job because he will be unable to drive.”

She said he had been advised to give a no-comment interview by his solicitor at the police station.

Storey, 23, of Slack Lane, Derby, admitted driving with excess alcohol when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates Court, on Friday.

He was banned for 15 months, but was offered a drink drive rehab course which will reduce his disqualification by 114 days if completed before January 2019.

He was fined £150 and ordered to pay a £30 government surcharge, and £85 court costs.
