Boozer threatened cops with '˜proper bad men'

John Ross Draycott, 27, of Chesterfield Road North, Pleasley, admitted using threatening words likely to cause harassment or distress when he appeared at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Ruth Snodin, prosecuting, said police were called to Patterson Place, Mansfield, to deal with Draycott because he was drunk and refused to leave his girlfriend’s address.

Officers agreed to help move his belongings to an address on Chesterfield Road North, Pleasley, but on the way there, Draycott began shouting and swearing.

Ms Snodin said: “He told officers - ‘I know some proper bad men who get things done. I have got a mate in prison who is a proper bad man.’

“He was ranting in the car and being abusive. When they arrived at Chesterfield Road North, officers told him to stop swearing and calm down.

“He approached them with a clenched fist and continued to shout abuse.

“He said - ‘What are you going to do? I am going to make you lose your jobs. I have got cops suspended.’”

The court heard Draycott had a previous conviction for assaulting a police officer from 2014.

Melanie Hoffman, mitigating, said: “He pleads guilty at the first available opportunity. His recollection of events is not particularly clear. He had gone out to celebrate a birthday.

“He has been working for a cleaning company for a year. While doing this he decided to stop drinking. And after this incident he won’t be drinking again in the future.”

Magistrates fined Draycott £200 and ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
